Alphabet’s Waymo and Uber announced a new partnership today that will allow Uber users to order a robotaxi directly through the Uber app later this year.
A number of Waymo vehicles will be available to Uber and Uber Eats users in Phoenix, where the Alphabet company recently doubled its service area to 466 square kilometers. The partnership is “multi-year,” which marks a significant departure from their previous relationship, characterized by accusations of trade secret theft and patent infringement.
Waymo is not the only robotaxi company featured in the Uber app. Motional, a collaboration between Hyundai and Aptiv, also has its vehicles available on the Uber app in Las Vegas.
